What is the František Běhounek Award – Cena Františka Běhounka?

Who can be nominated for the František Běhounek Award?

Outstanding personality of Czech science (someone who is working in a Czech research institution or who has graduated from a Czech university).

Why nominate for the František Běhounek Award?

  • It is recognition of the candidate’s contribution to promotion and popularization of Czech science in the European Research Area.
  • Increased credibility and visibility of outstanding researcher.
  • The candidate will receive a certificate and a financial bonus of 250,000 CZK.

When to nominate for the František Běhounek Award?

Nominations are accepted annually: 15 July 2024 (CAS deadline 19 June 2024).

How to nominate for the František Běhounek Award?

  1. Find and read the guidelines :

  2.     The nomination can be consulted with the IOCB Board.    
  3. Consider contacting independent experts (colleagues from abroad or significant Czech researchers) and ask them to provide you with Reference Letters.
  4. To obtain a support letter from the Czech Academy of Sciences, ask the Project Office to contact the CAS by their deadline.
  5. The nomination shall be submitted on a provided template  .
    • The name, surname and title of the candidate.
    • The candidate's place of work and job title.
    • The candidate's professional curriculum vitae.
    • Justification of the candidate's proposal (candidate's contribution to research; achievements in solving projects; contribution to spreading the reputation of Czech science abroad); references to foreign scientific sources in which the candidate's work has been mentioned and evaluated.
    • Supplementary and recommendatory materials (e.g. reference recommendations from colleagues from abroad or prominent domestic scientific personalities).
    • Draft press release about the candidate.
    • Identification of the proposer.
  6. The nomination submission: The proposal should be signed electronically and sent via the data box system to the MEYS (vidaawt).
