What are the French Embassy Scientific Prizes?

Competition organized by the Embassy of France in the Czech Republic to award the best Ph.D. research work in chemistry, in experimental biomedical and pharmaceutical research and in computer sciences.

Who can apply for the French Embassy Scientific Prize?

The Czech or Slovak nationality Ph.D. student or postdoc, who is younger than 33 years at the time of the award ceremony. The applicant must be currently enrolled in a Ph.D. programme at a Czech institution or has defended his/her Ph.D. in the last two years and has to be an author of at least one scientific article published or accepted for publication in a peer-reviewed international journal

When to apply for the French Embassy Scientific Prize?

The nomination is annually: February/ March
The nomination must be submitted via the Czech Academy of Sciences (CAS). Deadlines for individual stages of the process are announced annually the CAS Head Office.

There is two stage process of the nomination:

  • Stage 1: the CAS pre-selection– March tbc
  • Stage 2: Nationwide Finals – The French Institute in Prague (IFP) – April tbc

How to apply for the French Embassy Scientific Prize?

  2. Prepare your application for Stage 1 (the CAS pre-selection - max. 2 candidates from the CAS institutes are eligible)
    • Professional CV in English (incl. grants and awards received)
    • List of publications (incl. IF and quartile)
    • Annotation of the project that the candidate would present before the jury (max 0.5 page)
  3. Contact the IOCB Project Office
    The Project Office must be informed about the candidates applying from IOCB. They will cross-check your application and submit it to the CAS Head Office.
  4. Be prepared for Stage 2 (you will be contacted directly the CAS Head Office)
  5. Prepare your application for Stage 2 (for the Nationwide Finals – April tbc)
    • Applicant´s contact information
    • Academic CV, including a list of publications with their ranking.
    • Summary of the research project that the candidate would present before the jury (max 0.5 page; in Czech and in English).
    • Presentation of research activities and applicability prospects. The references can be indicated on additional pages. (Word; max 5 pages; incl. figures; in English).
    • Signed letter of recommendation written by the applicant’s scientific supervisor, presenting both the student and his/her research work.
