The informal network Women in Science at IOCB (WiS@IOCB) was formed in 2017, after a seminar and discussion led by Prof Cynthia Burrows, a former member of the IOCB’s International Advisory Board. The discussion during this seminar identified some problems women faced and proposed possible action points, which were then presented to IOCB management. Whilst originally identified as issues faced by women, many of the identified issues are also faced by other researchers, so this “signpost” of resources should be useful to all employees.
The informal group Women in Science at IOCB was established and has organised a wide range of events since, including career seminars, panel discussions on issues such as day care, the pay gap, and grant opportunities.
The IOCB management supports the activities of WiS@IOCB and there are also a large number of IOCB’s own initiatives to support employees who are parents, some of which are outlined in the tabs below.
