SOGo is a groupware system managing calendars and address books for individual users. Calendars can be conveniently shared with colleagues – the system uses a database of institutional addresses so it is easy to add a colleague with the integrated "auto-complete", without having to know the exact e-mail address.

The SOGo system provides additional method to access your e-mail inbox – it is an alternative to the Squirrelmail / Roundcube webmail or to desktop mail programs such as Mozilla Thunderbird. SOGo web interface is very similar to the Thunderbird user interface so those using Thuderbird at work can work with similar program interface even outside the local network. There are also functions that cannot be found in another mail system in the Institute, such as setting automatic reply in absence (vacation setting) or mail forwarding.

Besides using the web interface users can connect their address books and calendars to the e-mail program Thunderbird (add-ons needed), to Mac OS X, to smartphones and tablets with Android a iOS (sync application needed) and (iPhone, iPad).

Web interface

SOGo web interface is accessible on https://mail.uochb.cas.cz/SOGo/ or https://sogo.uochb.cas.cz/. Besides calendar and address book tools, SOGo also contains an interface to the Institute e-mail (connected to your mailbox on the IOCB mail server). You can switch views in the top menu. Calendars can be shared with any user or group. It is possible to check the partner’s availability when planning a meeting – such inspection, however, must be allowed in settings in partner’s calendar (Preferences menu).

The last item on the top menu - Preferences - allows user to change system settings. It is possible to set automatic forwarding of messages (menu item Forwarding), auto-reply during the holidays/vacation (menu item Absence) and various filters processed on the server side (menu item Mail Options).

The advantage of filters processed on the server side (server-side scripts) is that the mails are sorted immediately, so it does not matter whether you access them from the web interface of SOGo, the web interface of SquirrelMail, Roundcube, from any of the desktop clients (Thunderbird) or from mobile devices.
