You can use any e-mail client with IMAP protocol support or some of the web e-mail access interfaces. We recommend using Mozilla Thunderbird from the available e-mail clients.

  • A valid address is always name.surname@uochb.cas.cz
  • incoming mail
    • server imap.uochb.cas.cz
    • protocol IMAPS

For assistance in e-mail client installation please contact the ITS department support team (contacts below).

To access your mail, you can also use the one from web portals like SOGo, Squirrelmail or Roundcube.

Limits and recommendations

  • The maximum size of one e-mail is 20 MB – to send a larger file use anonymous sharing service.
  • The maximum number of e-mail recipients of a single message is 30. If you need to send e-mails to a large number of addresses, use a special program for sending bulk mail or contact Karolína Kotová.
  • Set your e-mail client so that it does not check mail more often than for instance every 5-10 minutes.
  • The accounts do not allow another connection method to the server than through IMAP, IMAPS, SMTP, and obsolete POP3 and POP3S services
  • We recommend Mozilla Thunderbird as an e-mail client.

Other info

  • Spams has added ”[SPAM]” tag before subject and then they are delivered to mailbox.
  • The server uses TERENA Certificate Service (TCS) certificates. The secure transfer protocols (smtp with TLS, pop3s, imaps, https) require the e-mail client to accept a security certificate. Some PC systems can require manual removal of the previous older certificates before installing the new one. Sometimes the automatic verification of the certificate can take a while.
  • We strongly recommend regular (e.g. annual) backup of e-mails and folders.
