What is the Shimadzu Prize?
Prize for Czech and Slovak early career researchers up to the age of 30 awarded annually at the September conference organised in alternating years by the Slovak Chemical Society (Slovenská chemická spoločnosť) in odd years and by the Czech Chemical Society (Česká společnost chemická) in even years. Its aim is to motivate early career researcher and to increase cooperation between the academic and industrial sectors. See Shimadzu Prize summary
Who can apply for the Shimadzu Prize?
Czech and Slovak researcher up to the age of 30 (in September of given year), who has submitted an abstract to attend the annual Slovak Chemical Society/Czech Chemical Society conference. They must be working in and presenting work using one of the following methods – separation analytical methods, or atomic, molecular or mass spectroscopy, in the fields of medicinal chemistry, pharmacy, life sciences, molecular biology, food analysis.
Why apply for the Shimadzu Prize?
- To showcase and improve your communication and presentation skills.
- To have your conference fee paid by Shimadzu (or receive a contribution towards it) if you are in the 10 pre-selected candidates.
- It is a recognition of the quality of your work in analytical chemistry and your presentation skills.
- Increased credibility and visibility of early career researcher.
- To receive a financial award of 1000 € (1st prize), 600 € (2nd prize), 300 € (3rd prize).
When to apply for the Shimadzu Prize?
Apply by submitting an abstract to the annual Slovenská chemická spoločnosť/Česká společnost chemická konference and sending this also the to Shimadzu representative (sk@shimadzu.eu.com in “Slovak years” or cz@shimadzu.eu.com in “Czech years”).- The application deadline is: late April/early May
- The conference (selection and awards ceremony) is in: early September

How to apply for the Shimadzu prize?
- Find and read guidelines
- Submit an abstract to the Slovenská chemická spoločnosť/Česká společnost chemická annual conference (Zjazd chemikov/Sjezd chemiků) in September (deadline usually in late April/early May.
- Send abstract also to Shimadzu representative sk@shimadzu.eu.com in “Slovak years” or cz@shimadzu.eu.com in “Czech years”) using the conference abstract template. The abstract must be in Czech, Slovak or English.
- If you are amongst the pre-selected 10 candidates, your conference fee will be paid for or subsidised by Shimadzu.
- Attend the Zjazd chemikov/Sjezd chemiků conference in September and present your research in a 10 minute talk (in Czech or Slovak).
- The winners will be announced and prizes awarded at the conference.
