European Young Researchers Award
What is the European Young Researchers Award?
The European Young Researchers’ Award (EYRA), granted by EuroScience since 2010, aims to inspire early-stage researchers in all research areas to incorporate a European dimension and perspective into their research. Two awards are granted every two years to: a) a Ph.D. candidate and b) a postdoctoral fellow. The prize-giving ceremony for the two awards is held at the biennual EuroScience flagship event, EuroScience Open Forum (ESOF). Read more in the European Young Researchers Award summary
Who can apply for the European Young Researchers Award?
- For the Ph.D. Candidate award: Applicants should be enrolled for a PhD degree at the time of the application deadline or should have successfully defended their thesis no earlier than January 1st of the year in which application is submitted (e.g. 2021 for the 2022 call).
- For the Postdoctoral fellow award: Applicants should have successfully defended their thesis no earlier than January 1st five years before the year in which application is submitted and should be enrolled in a postdoctoral programme at the time of the application deadline.
- Applicants must be affiliated with a European country, but can be of any nationality.

When to apply for the European Young Researchers Award?
The applications are usually open in June each year via www.euroscience.org/awards and applications must be submitted by late August/mid September. The prize-giving ceremony for the two awards is held at the biennual EuroScience flagship event, EuroScience Open Forum (ESOF), usually in July of the following year.

How to apply for the European Young Researchers Award?
- Find and read the guidelines
- Download the cover page and complete it.
- Prepare a Research Outline describing the research and its European dimension (max 800 words).
- Prepare a CV including statement of prizes/awards already received (max 800 words).
- Prepare a list of publications or other relevant material to support the candidacy.
- Contact two referees and ask for a reference letter/letter of recommendation. The references should come from individuals well qualified in the field. At least one of the references should be from a person who has not taken part in or is associated with the research itself.
- Create an account in the Membership Platform (ESCMP). Once registered, click on “Apply for an Award” and follow the application procedure. The field “Motivation Letter” may be ignored (write N/A). It is replaced by the Research Outline document, to be uploaded under “Supporting Documents”.
- Finalise your application and submit this via the online application form via the
ESCMPlatform by the deadline (late August/mid September).
Your application data should include (upload under supporting documents):
- Cover page downloadable from the system, completed and attached to the application.
- Research Outline describing the research and its European dimension (max 800 words).
- CV including statement of prizes/awards already received (max 800 words).
- List of publications or other relevant material to support the candidacy.
- Two reference letters should be sent directly to office@euroscience.org.
