ThermoFisher and CSMS Fellowships
What is the ThermoFisher/CSMS and the CSMS Fellow?
The ThermoFisher/CSMS Fellowship can be awarded to postdocs or PhD students who use electron / ion microscopy for their scientific work, or directly exploit the results obtained by electron microscopy, XPS, µCT and nanoCT. For more details see Thermofisher/CSMS Fellow 2025 summary
The CSMS Fellowship is for researchers or PhD students who use microscopy methods, are developing new microscopy approaches or analyse microscopy data.
The CSMS fellowship is open to projects involving types of microscopy other than electron microscopy. Projects with a combination of methods (incl.
electron microscopy) are eligible. For more details see CSMS Fellow 2025 summary .
Who can apply for the ThermoFisher/CSMS and the CSMS Fellow?
Postdocs or Ph.D. students up to 30 years of age for the ThermoFisher/CSMS Fellowship and researchers or Ph.D. students up to 35 years of age (can be extended by time spent on maternity/parental leave) for CSMS Fellowship.
Why apply for the ThermoFisher/CSMS and the CSMS Fellow?
- You can get financial support of up to 200 000 CZK per project with the duration of 24 months.
- The financial support includes money towards your a salary (up to 120 000 CZK) and a subsidy for travel/mobility allowance, conference attendance, training and literature.

How to apply for the ThermoFisher/CSMS and the CSMS Fellow?
- Find and read programme guidelines:
- Register to the online application system:
- Negotiate support of the host institution and ask for a Commitment Letter to be signed by the director (support for 2 years).
- Contact your colleague(s) - your former supervisors and ask them to write you a recommendation letter(s).
- Contact collaborators and ask them for Collaboration Letters to indicate their willingness to contribute equipment, materials, or expertise to your research project.

Complete all parts of your application:
- structured professional curriculum vitae;
- description of the research project;
- financial plan for two years.

Finalise your application:
- application (applicant);
- copy of the applicant's highest education certificate (applicant);
- recommendation letter(s);
- commitment letter of the host institution (Project Office & applicant).
- Submit your application via an online system (ThermoFisher/CSMS Fellow 2025; CSMS Fellow 2025) before Wed 31 May 2024 midnight.
Evaluation results will be announced on 15 Sep 2025.
The agreement must be signed by 30 Sep 2025 (CSMS).
The start date is 01 Oct 2025.
