What is the WBI IN Excellence Grant Programme?

Wallonia-Brussels International (WBI) provides WBI IN Scholarships for postdocs and Ph.D. to enable them postdoctoral training in Wallonia and Brussels Universities.

Who can apply for the WBI IN Scholarships?

Postdocs from all countries.

Why to apply for the WBI IN Scholarships?

  • It is an opportunity to receive funding for short-term (1-3 months) or long-term (1-2 years) study visit to perform your research in life sciences laboratory in Wallonia and Brussels Universities.

When to apply for the WBI IN Scholarships?

  1. There are two cut-offs for WBI IN Short-Term Scholarships
    Submission deadlines are on:
    • 01 Apr (1st cut-off) for stays between Sep-Feb
    • 01 Oct (2nd cut-off) for stays between Mar–July
  2. Submission deadline for WBI IN Long-Term Scholarships
    The submission deadline is on 01 Feb.

How to apply for the WBI IN Scholarships?

  1. Find and read programme guidelines:
  2. Negotiate your study visit with colleague from selected Wallonia and Brussels University and ask him/her for a Letter of invitation or agreement from the host university or from the professor(s) supervising the research.
  3. Negotiate the arrangements for your short stay research visit with your IOCB supervisor and request authorisation to submit the proposal via the internal electronic IOCB Project Proposal Approval System (PPAS). You must be either connected to the IOCB network or via the IOCB Virtual Private Network (VPN) to access this system.
  4. Contact two referees and ask them to provide a letter of recommendation, provide them with a prefilled form (appendix. 6) and ask them to send letter of recommendation by email directly to WBI to the address bourses@wbi.be before the submission deadline.
  5. Complete application form including all appendixes:
    • Application form: project description, academic background, publications
    • A1: Declaration of additional funding
  6. Finalize your application: Combine your application form with all appendixes info one PDF file (applicant)
    • Application form (academic background, project summary (max. 900 characters), project descriprion (max. 10,000 characters).
      Appendixes:
      • A1 Declaration of additional fundin
      • A2 Curriculum Vitae (max. 5 pages; europass)
      • A3 Publications – list of you publication
    • Letter of invitation or agreement from the host university and sponsor supervising the research (no template)
    • Copy of diplomas
  7. Submit your application as one PDF file by e-mail to bourses@wbi.be before one of cut-off deadlines:
    Short-Term Scholarships
    • 01 Apr (1st cut-off)
    • 01 Oct (2nd cut-off)
    Long-Term Scholarships
    • 01 Feb

Applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application:
Short-Term Scholarships

  • at the beginning of July (1st cut-off)
  • at the end of December (2nd cut-off)
Long-Term Scholarships
  • at the beginning of June

Applicants may realize their study visits in Wallonia and Brussels University between:
Short-Term Scholarships

  • 01 Sep – 28 Feb (1st cut-off)
  • 01 Mar – 31 Jul (2nd cut-off)
Long-Term Scholarships
  • From 01 Sep - 01 Oct at the latest till 31Aug - 30 Sep
