What is the FEBS Short-Term Fellowship?
FEBS Short-Term Fellowships (STFs) support Ph.D. students and postdocs (members of FEBS Constituent Societies) to undertake short-term visits up to 2(3) months in FEBS countries for the purpose of scientific collaboration, advanced training, employing new techniques in biochemistry and molecular biology. Who can apply for the FEBS Short-Term Fellowship?
Postdocs (Ph.D. completed less than 6 years prior to the application submission); Ph.D. students with at least one published paper as a main author in an international scientific journal. Applicants must be members of a FEBS Constituent Society (e.g. the Czech Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology).

- You can do your research visit in FEBS Member states: Armenia, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom (with Irish Area Section); FEBS Associate Members: Belarus, Moldova, Morocco and Tunisia.
When to apply for the FEBS Short-Term Fellowship?
FEBS STF callis open throughout the year, applications should be submitted at least 3 months before the start date. Evaluation results are announced within 1 month after submission.

How to apply for the FEBS Short-Term Fellowship?
- Establish or renew your membership in a FEBS Constituent Society; e.g. the Czech Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology or other.
- Find and read programme guidelines:
- Negotiate a foreign supervisor for your short research visit in an excellent research laboratory in FEBS member states and discuss your research project with him/her. Ask the host institution for institutional support and confirmation of the Host acceptance form (it is mandatory to receive the form signed by the head and the supervisor of the host institution).
- Negotiate the arrangements for your short stay research visit with your IOCB supervisor and request authorisation to submit the proposal via the internal electronic IOCB Project Proposal Approval System (PPAS). You must be either connected to the IOCB network or via the IOCB Virtual Private Network (VPN).
- Contact one referee who does not work at the host institution and ask him/her for references and recommendations.
- Contact your FEBS Constituent Society and ask them for a Confirmation Letter to confirm your active membership.
- Establish your FEBS account and activate contact details of the referee in the system.

Complete and finalise your online application form on the FEBS account.
- Research proposal (max 2 A4 pages saved in PDF format): (i) title, (ii) nature of the work & outline of proposed experiments, (iii) necessary to travel to the selected laboratory, (iv) description of the selected laboratory with a list of max 5 relevant publications from the host laboratory, (v) required time period (applicant)
- Short CV with a list of publications in the format required by the FEBS Journal (applicant)
- Host acceptance form (use template) (head & supervisor of the host institution)
- Letter of support (referee must not work at the host institute)
- Confirmation letter from the appropriate FEBS Constituent Society (applicant & FEBS Constituent Society)

- Submit your application at any point throughout the year, there are no deadlines. The application must be submitted at least three months before the proposed start date.
Applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application within 1 month after submission.
