Information for IOCB PhD Students
In addition to the series of thematic questions introducing a variety of useful information on the previous page, this section focuses solely on information related to PhD studentships.
Bootcamp
IOCB organizes a three-day bootcamp for all first-year PhD students every autumn in Malá Úpa, Krkonoše. The students receive all the details via email from the PhD coordinator.
PhD Mentoring
The mentoring program at IOCB is designed to support your academic journey, professional growth, and personal wellbeing. Mentoring offers networking opportunities and practical advice for your studies and career, and support to overcome challenges. The program is voluntary and independent of the PhD supervisor but complements their role.
Find out more under the PhD Mentoring tab here.
PhD coordinator – what can she help you with?
The PhD coordinator is involved in the hiring and onboarding process for PhD students, so it is likely that you have already been in contact with her. During the PhD program, if you encounter any issues, you can reach out to the PhD coordinator in addition to the counselor and ethical proxies. This can be done privately.
Student reps – what do you have them for?
Student reps are senior PhD volunteers who have stepped up to serve as your point of contact and representative. They're available to assist with general questions, discuss any concerns, or offer advice on personal matters when you’re unsure where to turn or if you're hesitant to seek help elsewhere. Additionally, they provide feedback to the PhD coordinator, give you a voice, raise issues on behalf of you, and discuss solutions.
Events organized by PhD reps: PhD Breakfast and PhD peers.
Student-run activities at IOCB
Do you have an idea for a mini conference, career workshop, or activity that would bring a group of student enthusiasts together to regularly meet and unwind? Examples of past activities include board games, various sports, and art sessions. Contact our PhD coordinator for guidance and tips, and we may post the activity along with your contact details in this section.
