What is the Humboldt Research Award?
Humboldt Research Awards are awarded for a period of 6-12 months and support outstanding researchers to cooperate on long-term research projects with specialist colleagues at research institutions in Germany. For more details see Humboldt Award 2025 summary
Who can nominate for the Humboldt Research Award?
Established academics who are employed by a university or research institution in Germany or award winners of the Humboldt Foundation working abroad can nominate a foreign outstanding researcher for the award. Direct applications are not accepted.Why to nominate for the Humboldt Research Award?
- It is a prestigious opportunity to develop international Czech–German research cooperation and realise joint high-level, innovative research projects.
- Nominee can get financial support 60 000 € for 1 year to cover his/her personnel costs, living costs, travel expenses, family allowances.
- Extensive alumni sponsorship once a successful research stay has come to an end.
When to nominate for the Humboldt Research Award?
The Humboldt application system is open throughout the year, but there are two selection meetings every year (March, October).

How to nominate for the Humboldt Research Award?
- Find and read programme guidelines:
- Establish or use your Humboldt account.
- Complete your online application form in your Humboldt account.
- Request authorisation to submit the proposal via the internal electronic IOCB Project Proposal Approval System (PPAS). You must be either connected to the IOCB network or via the IOCB Virtual Private Network (VPN) to access this system..
- Finalise your application.
- Online Application in your Humboldt account (nominator)
- Personal statement by the nominator (laudation, academic appraisal; 2–5 pages; nominator)
- Information on the invitation to Germany (max 2 pages; nominator)
- List of the nominee´s key publications with comments on their special scientific significance (max 2 pages, nominator)
- Complete chronological list of nominee´s publications covering the past 10 years (including all authors, identifying the corresponding author(s), titles, publisher/ journal, edition, year, first and last page number); if relevant, also include published conference papers and patents. If applicable, the nominator may include a link to the nominee’s complete digital bibliography at the beginning of the list. (nominator)
- Submit your nomination online whenever at any point throughout the year, there are no deadlines. It is recommended to submit the nomination at least 6 months before the selection meeting (Spring: March, Autumn: October).
Final evaluation results will be announced to nominators within 4 weeks of the selection meeting.
