What is the the Barrande Short Stay Fellowship?
Barrande Short Stay Fellowships support short-term (1-3 month) research visits of Ph.D. students in France, learning of new methods & specific technologies, work with unique facilities & instruments, study of publications unavailable in the Czech Republic, etc. For more details see Barrande Short Stay 2025
Who can apply for the Barrande Short Stay Fellowship?
Ph.D. students registered at a university in the Czech Republic.

How to apply for the Barrande Short Stay Fellowship?
- Find and read programme guidelines:
- See first the list of all French doctoral schools and read information on enrolment in a PhD programme in France on the Campus France website.
- Contact your Czech supervisor and negotiate with him/her your research visit in France, identify jointly a French supervisor to host you during your research stay in France.
- Contact a French researcher and negotiate mentoring of your research stay, duration of the stay, beginning & end of the visit and the institutional support of the host institution.
- Ask your Czech supervisor for a Signed Recommendation Letter of Support from the Czech supervisor (template in Appendix 1 of the Application Guidelines may be used): agreement with your project and it being conducted to joint supervision; expected dates of the stay in France; highlight student’s qualities, his/her research work and explain the benefit of the research stay abroad; written in English; must be on letterheaded paper.
- Ask your French supervisor for a Signed Recommendation Letter of Invitation from the French supervisor (template in Appendix 2 of the Application Guidelines may be used): agreement with your project and supervision; willingness to host you at the institution; expected dates of the stay in France; written in English; must be on letterheaded paper.
- Provide a transcript of records or a copy of the Diploma Supplement issued by the university, covering the most recently completed degree programme.
- The application process will take place on the platform:
- You are a student registered in the Czech Republic.
- Log in or create an account on the platform; Click on

under the appropriate call. - Create a new application, complete all mandatory fields, and upload the required documents before the deadline on January 26, 2025.
- Complete all parts of your application::
- Academic CV - contact details of the applicant must be specified (personal and professional e-mail address and phone numbers) - max. 2 pages (applicant);
- Cover letter: motivation for applying, subject of your research, reasons for selection of the French lab - max. 2 pages (applicant);
- Project description: research topic, specify your research objectives, methodology and expected research, detailed study plan and timeline incl. the expected dates of the stay abroad; names and contact information of Czech & French supervisors - max 2 pages plus references max 1 page; header must include: Name/first name of the applicant - Subject of thesis - Name/first name of supervisors/addresses of universities (applicant);
- Signed Recommendation Letter of Invitation from your French supervisor (French supervisor);
- Signed Recommendation Letter of Support from your Czech supervisor (Czech supervisor);
- A transcript of records or a copy of the Diploma Supplement issued by the university of previous finished degree program (applicant & Czech university administration).
- Finalize your application
- All materials should be submitted in PDF format, following these rules: Each document should be named using the following template: LAST NAME First name – Document title (Example: SMITH John – CV). Please note that all documents (without any exception) must be uploaded in order to submit your application.
- Categories: Human Life Sciences and Health (LSH); Biology and Environment (B&E); Social Sciences & Economics (SSE); Humanities (H); Chemistry (CH); Physics/Engineering (PE);Maths/IT/Systems Engineering (MITSE)
- Submit your electronic application before Sun 26 Jan 2025 (IOCB deadline Fri 17 Jan 2025).
Interviews for selected candidates will be held in Feb 2025.
Final evaluation results will be announced in Apr 2025.
Awarding Ceremony will be held in May 2025.
Research stays should start on 01 October 2025.
