What is the Visegrad Taiwan Scholarship Program?

Visegrad–Taiwan Scholarships offer scholarships to citizens of the V4 countries (Czechia, Slovakia, Poland and Hungary) to study or conduct research at selected institutions in Taiwan, thus facilitating academic mobility between the V4 region and Taiwan.

Who can apply for the Visegrad Taiwan Scholarship Program?

Ph.D. candidates (early stage researchers) or postdoctoral scholars (experienced researchers) who are citizens of one of the V4 countries (Czechia, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary).

Why apply for the Visegrad Taiwan Scholarship Program?

  • To spend 1-10 months studying or conducting research in selected Taiwanese universities
  • To gain international experience
  • To grow your international research network of contacts
  • To have an introduction to scientific and technological development in Taiwan
  • To receive €1,000 per month and a one time travel grant of €1,000, and to have your tuition fees covered by the host institution on the Taiwanese side

When to apply for the Visegrad Taiwan Scholarship Program?

There is usually one deadline annually, at the end of September. The nearest Visegrad Taiwan Scholarship deadline is on Sat 30 Sept 2023 12:00 noon.

How to apply for the Visegrad Taiwan Scholarship Program?

  1. Find and read guidelines::
  2. Contact a supervisor at the proposed research institution/university and ask them for a scanned letter of acceptance or equivalent document (e.g. invitation letter) from host university including a detailed working plan of the research period (not older than 3 months when submitting the application) (Host university & Applicant)
  3. Contact two referees to provide you with a letter of reference (one should be your current supervisor/research group leader, stating that they agree with the proposed research stay abroad) (Referees & Applicant]
  4. Obtain your latest academic transcript (in English or translated into English) and scan your highest degree certificate (Applicant)
  5. Contact the Project Office (and University in case of PhD students) to ask for a scanned confirmation of current enrolment for PhD/current contract (on letterhead paper, stamped and signed) (Applicant & Project Office)
  6. Fill in your online application form, including personal information applicant details, basic plan of the mobility, choice of host research institution, contact details of two referees
  7. Finalize the application documents and attach them to the application through the MyVisegrad portal. This should include:
    • Application form (typed) (applicant)
    • Two recommendation letters (one from current supervisor) (referees & applicant)
    • Scan of highest university degree diploma and latest official academic transcript in English or translated into English (applicant)
    • Confirmation of current enrolment/employment (Project Office & university & applicant)
    • Scan of letter of acceptance including a detailed working plan for the research period (not older than 3 months) (host institution & applicant)

The applications will be evaluated by November 2023. You can start your research visit from January 2024 and it should be completed by December 31, 2024.
