What are the IOCB Postdoctoral Projects?

IOCB Prague opens up to 10 postdoctoral positions in chemistry and biochemistry per year to support strong candidates, who did their undergraduate and graduate studies at reputable institutions. Who can apply for the IOCB Postdoctoral Project?

Applications have to be prepared by newly incoming talented foreign postdocs and submitted by IOCB group leaders.

How to apply for the IOCB Postdoctoral Project?

  1. Find and read programme guidelines:
  2. Contact an IOCB group leader and negotiate your postdoctoral research project with him/her. Ask him/her for a Support Letter.
  3. Contact two referees and ask them for references and recommendations. The recommendation letters have to be sent by referees confidentially directly to fellowship@uochb.cas.cz before the respective 01 Apr or 01 Oct deadline.
  4. Complete and finalise your application into 1 PDF file.
    • CV with contacts (address, e-mail, phone) (postdoc)
    • Cover/motivation letter with the envisaged starting date of the fellowship (postdoc)
    • List of publications (postdoc)
    • Name of the IOCB partner/supervisor and the envisaged starting date of the fellowship (postdoc)
    • Support Letter of the IOCB partner/supervisor (IOCB supervisor)
    • Project proposal: state of the art, details of projected investigations, in context with the host group research activities (3-4 pages) (postdoc & IOCB supervisor)
    • Proposed starting date of the fellowship (postdoc & IOCB supervisor)
  5. Send the final PDF file with your application to the IOCB supervisor before 01 Apr or 01 Oct.
  6. The IOCB group leader / supervisor submits the application by sending the PDF via e-mail to fellowship@uochb.cas.cz before 01 Apr or 01 Oct.

Final evaluation results will be announced to applicants within one month of the selection meeting.

The fellowship must be started within 12 months of the award committee's decision, except in cases of maternity/parental leave (18 months extension). If a later start is intended, the committee will require a new proposal to be submitted.

IOCB Postdoctoral Project extension

When to apply for the IOCB Postdoctoral Project extension?

Request for extension must be submitted during the tenure of the fellowship. There are two deadlines every year: 01 Apr and 01 Oct

  • 01 Apr following calendar year for funding started between May - Sep
  • 01 Oct following calendar year for funding started between Nov - Apr
Funding support is approved always for 1 year (12 months)

How to apply for the IOCB Postdoctoral Project extension?

  1. Contact an IOCB group leader and negotiate extension of your postdoctoral research project with him/her for another year (12 months). Ask him/her for a Support Letter.
  2. Complete and finalise your request for extension into 1 PDF file.
    • A cover letter (postdoc)
    • A letter of support written by the applicant’s supervisor (supervisor)
    • A summary of the results of the first year (2-3 pages) (postdoc & IOCB supervisor)
    • Describe the benefits of the conference /workshop attended and financed by the IOCB Postdoc travel support, incl. the amount spent (postdoc & IOCB supervisor)
    • Plans for the extension period not exceeding 3 pages (postdoc & IOCB supervisor)
  3. Send the final PDF file with your extension request to the IOCB supervisor before 01 Apr or 01 Oct.
  4. The IOCB group leader/supervisor submits the application by sending the PDF via e-mail to fellowship@uochb.cas.cz before 01 Apr or 01 Oct.


IOCB Postdoctoral Project a final report

When to submit a final report of the IOCB Postdoctoral Project?

Recipients of an IOCB fellowship must submit, within one month after the end of the fellowship, a final report to the fellowship committee. In case of leaving IOCB Prague, the report must be submitted before the end of the employment contract at IOCB Prague.

How to submit a final report of the IOCB Postdoctoral Project?

  1. Complete and finalise your final report into 1 PDF file.
    • A cover letter
    • A summary of the results not exceeding two to three pages
    • Describe the benefits of the conference /workshop attended and financed by the IOCB Postdoc travel support, incl. the amount spent (postdoc & IOCB supervisor)
    • Copies of publications published or submitted, or drafts of planned publications
  2. Send the final PDF file with your final report to the IOCB supervisor
  3. The IOCB group leader / supervisor submits the application by sending the PDF via e-mail to fellowship@uochb.cas.cz.
