What are the MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships (MSCA PF)?

MSCA PFs aim to enhance the creativity and innovativeness of postdoctoral researchers, focusing on diversification of their individual competences, acquisition of new skills through advanced training, and through international and inter-sectoral mobility. Who can apply for the MSCA PF?

Experienced Researcher (Researcher) = scientist with a completed Ph.D. (if the thesis has been defended but the degree has not been formally awarded yet, the researcher will be deemed to be eligible). At the same time, the applicant must have no more than eight years full time equivalent experience in research since the award of the Ph.D. For more details, see MSCA PF 2025 Summary  .


EUROPEAN POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWHIPS (PF-EF): Researcher of any nationality and any age who moves or has moved from any country to an EU Member States (MS) or an EU Associated Country (AC) where the beneficiary is located.

GLOBAL POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS (PF-GF): Researcher of any age who is a national or long-term resident of a MS or AC and who moves or has moved from any country to the partner organisation located in a Third Country (TC). The outgoing phase in a TC must be followed by a mandatory 12-month return phase in an MC or AC beneficiary.

ERA FELLOWSHIPS: Researcher of any age who submitted proposal to the MSCA-2025-PF call with a beneficiary located in a Widening Country, which failed to score high enough to receive funding under this call. Only European Postdoctoral Fellowships can qualify for the ERA-PF call. All eligibility and admissibility rules applicable to the MSCA-2025-PF call will apply, scheme will fund proposals submitted to the MSCA-2025-PF

Why apply for the MSCA PF?

  • The researcher can apply for an optional six month non-academic placement in an EU MS/AC at the end of the fellowship.

  • Attractive financial support of approx. 208 000 € per 24 months (EF) or approx. 312 000 € per 36 months (GF) depending on the beneficiary location (plus an extra approx. 52 000 € if the 6 month non-academic placement is planned).

How to apply for the MSCA PF?

  1. Fellows (Experienced researchers)

    Are you looking for a Host institution to host your project? Do you want to apply for an MSCA PF?
    1. Find and read the programme guidelines.
    2. Find and contact an excellent supervisor at a Host institution, who is interested in being your active mentor and supervisor. Some Host institutions require that their responsible Office/Unit/Service for EU Grants also checks the Proposal.
    3. Contact the Partner organisation if a secondment in Europe is planned and/or if it is the TC host of the outgoing phase for the PF-GF application. If you are planning to finish your fellowship with a non-academic placement, Contact the hosting organisation at this point and Request a Letter of Commitment. Non-academic placement can be carried out in addition to SMEs/companies, for example, in a museum, a national park, a hospital, a non-governmental non-profit organization, etc.
    4. Ensure that both your Host institution and Partner institution have the Participant Identification Code (PIC). Create or use your account on the EC Funding and Tenders Portal. Choose the call, activate your access to the call on the EU Funding and Tenders Portal and download the templates of the Research proposal Part B1 and Part B2.
    5. Fill in the online Administrative form (Part A) in the EU the EU Funding and Tenders Portal. See detailed information in MSCA PF 2025 summary  .

    6. Complete the MSCA-PF-2025 offline Part B1 (MSCA-PF-2025 proposal template  , max 10 pages) and convert the final version to PDF format. Visual figures, tables and graphs are highly recommended in the proposal. Discuss your proposal with the supervisor, the Project Office or the (Czech) national contact point: Mgr.     7. Complete the MSCA-PF-2025 offline Part B2 (MSCA-PF-2025 proposal template  , no page limit) and make a PDF from and convert the final version to PDF format.       • Capacity of the Host institution and Partner organisation if applicable (overview of participating organisation and, using the table, max 1 page for the beneficiary and max 1/2 page for each Partner organisation)

    8. Finalise your application.
      • Administrative form online Part A (applicant - Host institution)

      • Research proposal offline Part B2 (applicant & supervisor & institution & Project Office)
    9. Submit your application before Wed 10 Sep 2025, 17:00:00 Brussels time (it is strongly recommended that you submit the proposal at least 48 hours in advance to avoid technical problems with the submission system).

    Final evaluation results will be announced to applicants in February/March 2026.
    The grant start date is expected to be between April 2026 - March 2027.

  2. Supervisors (Host institution)

    Are you interested in attracting and mentoring an MSCA PF-EF Fellow?
    1. Find and read programme guidelines.
    2. Compose a bid for potential MSCA PF Fellows through the Partner Search service on the Funding and Tenders Portal as part of the MSCA-PF-2025 call.
    3. Try to actively look for promising – excellent Experienced researchers (for example via EURAXESS, offer them the opportunity to become a member of your team and apply jointly to the MSCA-PF-EF 2025 call.
    4. When you find such an Experienced researcher help him/her to prepare a competitive project proposal to the MSCA-PF-EF 2025 call (please follow steps 4–9 of the previous section).


ERA FELLOWSHIPS (ERA-PF)

  • Support to researchers, regardless of their nationality, to undertake their fellowship in a Widening Country*.
  • Allocation – 8 M € under the Work Programme "Widening Participation and strengthening the European Research Area”.
  • applications submitted to the MSCA-PF-EF 2025 call (HI located in any Widening Country*) which failed to receive funding under this call may participate in ERA-PF (scoring and thresholds for MSCA-PF will apply).

  • PF-GF applications - excluded from the ERA/Widening call
