What is the JSPS Invitational Long-term Fellowship?

JSPS Invitational Long-term Fellowships (JSPS L) invite overseas researchers with excellent records of research achievements to collaborate with Japanese colleagues in carrying out research through long-term visits. For more details see JSPS summary 2019  

 

Who can apply for the JSPS Invitational Long-term Fellowship?

Host researchers who are employed full-time at a university or research institution in Japan. Overseas fellows are researchers in a position equivalent to a university professor, associate professor or assistant professor who hold a full-time position in an overseas research institution, have obtained their Ph.D. degree more than 6 years ago and are citizens or permanent residents of a country that has diplomatic relations with Japan.

 

Why to apply for the JSPS Invitational Long-term Fellowship?

  • It is a nice opportunity to do research at an excellent research institution in Japan for 2–10 months.
  • You should choose a host institution that provides the best research environment for your project.
  • You can establish new cooperation with Japanese researchers & improve your skills.
  • You can get maintenance allowance of ¥387,600 per month, a round-trip air ticket, overseas travel insurance and other miscellaneous.
  • You can get a Research support allowance up to ¥150,000 per tenure.

How to apply for the JSPS Invitational Long-term Fellowship?

  1. Find and read programme guidelines:

Establish contact with a Japanese or foreign-resident researcher in Japan in your field, negotiate your research project and the institutional support with him/her and ask him/her to submit an application. You should make this contact well in advance of the host institution’s application deadline (may be more than 1 month before JSPS deadline).
  3. Use the JSPS Invitational Long-term 2019 Form 2  , complete your application and send it to your host researcher (main JSPS applicant).
  4. The host researcher is the main applicant who completes and submits the final application on JSPS Electronic Application System. The nearest deadline is on Fri 07 Sep 2018 17:00 JST.

  5. The host institution submits two types of documents in paper form stamp with the seal of the head of institution by the deadline. The nearest deadline is on Fri 07 Sep 2018 17:00 JST.

Applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application in December 2018.
Applicants may start their research visits in Japan between Mon 01 Apr 2019 – Tue 31 Mar 2020.
