What is the EMBL EIPOD LinC Postdoctoral Fellowship?
EMBL EIPOD LinC Postdoctoral Fellowships are awarded for a period of three years (extendable by 6 months) and support self designed interdisciplinary post-doctoral research projects in EMBL laboratories throughout Europe. A key aspect of the scheme is the involvement of at least one partner laboratory (from EMBL or from an academic institute, clinic or industry in an EMBL member state). Who can apply for the EMBL EIPOD LinC Postdoctoral Fellowship?
Postdocs/experienced researchers who have finished their Ph.D by the call deadline (those who have defended their thesis and not yet been formally awarded the doctoral degree are eligible). Researchers of any nationality are eligible. Prior association with EMBL and/or an EMBL member state partner is permissible but cannot have exceeded 12 months within the last 3 years prior to the deadline.

- Develop and interdisciplinary project proposal under the overarching theme of life in context

- Decide on combination of EMBL groups (base dat one of the sites in Heidelberg DE, Hamburg DE, Hinxton UK, Grenoble FR, Barcelona ES, Rome IT) that would best support the project, bearing in mind that all projects need an EMBL host and at least 1 partner (partners can come from EMBL or from an academic institute, industry or clinic from an EMBL Member State, Associate Member State of Prospective Member State).
- Contact an EMBL host (can be screened by research areas), making sure EMBL group
leader you are interested in is participating in the call

when the call opens). Ask your EMBL host to write you a host support letter

- Choose an EMBL partner or a a partner from an external academic institute, industry or clinic from an EMBL Member State,

- Contact two referees and ask them for references and recommendations, which they will need to submit via the online application systém by 13 February 2025.
- Prepare your project proposal using the provided template
. Compulsory formatting (margins: 2 cm; font and font size: Times New Roman, 11 pt; line spacing: 1.5 lines) must be used, you may include one figure in the project description section. The project proposal should include:
- Applicant name and ID
- Project title
- EMBL host lab
- Partner lab (EMBL or EMBL member state)
- Project proposal (i) background and significance approx. 3 page, ii) project aims approx. 1 page, iii) project description, max. 2 pages incl. 1 figure)
- Roles of involved groups, interdisciplinary expertise provided, skills you will bring to project, skills you will gain by completing it, Gantt chart to show how split between involved labs (approx. 1 page)
- Description of impact of the project on field and how it relates to theme “exploring life in context” (approx. 1 page)

Finalise your application in the EMBL EIPOD EliC online application platform.

- Two Letters of Reference (referees)
- Submit your application before 13 Feb 2025 23:59 CET, (IOCB deadline 11 Feb 2025). The evaluation committee will meet 10-14 Mar 2025 and after this date interview invitations will be sent out by the EIPOD office.
- Be prepared to interact with the labs involved in your projects. The exact timing is based on discussion with the involved labs. Prior to 9 April 2025.
- Be prepared for an interview with the EIPOD committee (talks and panel interviews via Zoom) on 9 April 2025. Final evaluation results will be communicated to candidates by the week of 14 April 2025.
Successful applicants must start their fellowship within 4 months of receiving the offer (by August 31, 2025).
