What is the Ambizione?
The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) awards Ambizione Grants to out-standing postdoctoral researchers who intend to pursue an academic career at a Swiss research institution.Ambizione grant: research funds and salary for the grantee.
Ambizione project grant: research funds only (salary covered by a Swiss research institution).

Who can apply for the Ambizione?
Postdoc or junior researcher both from Switzerland and abroad - up to 4 years since completing a Ph.D., with 12 months of research experience after Ph.D. (date of Ph.D. defence is relevant, Ph.D. awarded between 2 Nov 2020 and 1 Nov 2023).

How to apply for the Ambizione?
- Find and read programme guidelines:
- Contact a selected Swiss research institution and negotiate your postdoc position, discuss your potential research project and ask for written confirmation of the institutional support - two separate letters: detailed confirmation signed by the contact person - leader of the research group or the head of the institute/department and a general confirmation of the vice rectorate for research.
- If you plan secondment/s at Swiss or foreign host institution/s (max. 12 months in total) contact the relevant host institution/s, negotiate conditions of your stay/s and ask for invitation letter/s.
- Establish your account on mySNF; select the correct division and instrument “Careers/Ambizione”. Please note that it may take several days to process your request for a new mySNF account.
- Fill in all the parts of your application at the mySNF
- Research plan (max.15 pages incl. max. 1 page Summary, 60 000 characters)
- Bibliography
- CV and major scientific achievements (structured according to SNSF guidelines)
- Research output list
- Statement of mobility, using the template
provided
- Finalise your application at the mySNF
- Two letters of confirmation (uploaded by applicant)
- If relevant – invitation letter/s (uploaded by applicant)
- Optional - additional support letter/s (uploaded by applicant)
- Submit your application before on Fri 1 Nov 2024 17:00 Swiss local time (i.e. UTC+1).
- Be prepared for interview in June 2025.
Applicant invited to phase 2 will be informed about the outcome around the end of Aug 2025.
Applicant not considered for phase 2 will receive the decision around the end of May 2025.
Final evaluation results will be announced to applicants by mid Aug 2025.
The Ambizione grants start date is 01 Sep 2025 (can be postponed up to 01 Sep 2026).
