What is the GA ČR WEAVE LA (GAČR partner)?

The WEAVE initiative, based on the multilateral agreement of selected funding providers, provide researchers from the Czech Republic, Austria, Poland, Slovenia, Germany, Luxembourg, Croatia, USA and Switzerland with the opportunity to request support for joint research projects with foreign partners part the initiative. Project proposals will be evaluated using the Lead agency principle. This principle belongs to the most preferred evaluation systems adopted in international cooperation of grant providers in basic research because of the low administrative burden. Once funding is approved, agencies support the involvement of their respective research teams in joint bilateral and trilateral projects focused on perspective interdisciplinary topics. A joint scientific project proposal is submitted only to one provider (Lead Agency) and evaluated according to their standard process. Applicants are free to choose which Lead Agency they submit the proposal to.


This “How to Apply” guide applies to the situation where the Czech Science Foundation (GAČR) is the Partner Agency. The procedure which applies when the GAČR acts as the Lead Agency is described in GACR WEAVE-L cookbook

National rules are binding for the implementation of projects. Each provider supports (financially) the national research team only.

Who can apply for the GA ČR WEAVE LA (GAČR partner)?

Researchers of any career stage (no age limit) from research organizations: research institutes, universities, higher education institutions, and other legal entities seated in the WEAVE initiative countries (Austria, Germany, Poland, Slovenia, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Croatia, USA) focused on R&D in cooperation with applicants from Czech Republic. The Czech part of the project proposal has to be submitted by one main proposer/ institution; collaboration of one or more other Czech partner institution(s) is possible.

  • Germany (DFG) – continuously (pdf of join proposal and data into GRIS - no later than 7 calendar days from the 8. 4. Apr 2025 or 8. 10. 2025)
  • Poland (NCN) – winter 2025 (pdf of joint proposal and data into GRIS - no later than 7 calendar days from the NCN submission term
  • Slovenia (ARIS) – 31. 1. 2025 (pdf of joint proposal and data into GRIS - no later than 7 calendar days from the ARIS submission)
  • Luxembourg (FNR): 10. 4. 2025 (pdf of joint proposal and data into GRIS – no later than 17. 4. 2025)
  • Croatia (HRRZ): 3. 3. 2025 (data into GRIS – up to 10. 3. 2025)

How to apply for the GA ČR WEAVE LA (GAČR partner)?

  1. Najděte a přečtěte pokyny/dokumentaci:
  2. Contact a partner from a selected LA country (Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Slovenia, Luxembourg, Croatia, USA) and agree on the preparation of a joint project proposal.
  3. Inform the Project office about your intention to apply ((send an email with the name of the foreign Lead to projectoffice@uochb.cas.cz).
  4. Prepare joint project proposal together with the foreign project partner in accordance with the rules of selected foreign Lead agency and by the deadline of this LA:
    • Description of the planned research - pdf of the project proposal submitted to the foreign agency must be enclosed as an attachment to GRIS application.
    • Forms required by the selected Lead Agency.
    • CV of Czech and foreign applicants and their bibliography.
    The submission of a joint project proposal, including the required forms and annexes, will be arranged by the foreign partner.
  5. Complete all parts of your project proposal in the GRIS application (everything in English) [for submission of the project proposal to GAČR as the Partner Agency, select the open call Lead Agency – Partner Organization - 2026; the project ID number will end with the letter L]:
    • Part A: basic identification data, abstract (1100 characters), aims of the project (300 characters), keywords, field cassification.
    • Part B: total funding, breakdown of financial items, incl. justification, detailed structure of personnel costs.
      Part B Financial Plan: total costs requested for foreign part of the project.
    • Part E: information on other projects of the applicant and co-applicants.
    • Part C2: expected project results - emphasis on quality, not quantity.
    • Part C3: international cooperation.
    • Part D1: CV of the Czech applicant and co-applicants; (up to 2 pages/person; font size 11, single spacing, 1 MB) list of activities over the last 5 years.
    • Part D2: bibliography of the Czech applicant, other achievements.
    • Part E: information on other projects of the applicant and co-applicants.
    • Annex - pdf of the joint project proposal submitted to the foreign LA agency.
  6. Send your budget for checking (projectoffice@uochb.cas.cz). To do this, send your auxiliary calculation spreadsheet (provided by the Project Office upon request) and a draft proposal version (generated by GRIS) already containing the budget justification section (part B).
  7. For IOCB official approval please complete form in the Electronic Project Proposal Approval system. Please complete this only after your budget has been approved by the Project Office.
  8. Send a complete draft proposal (PDF generated by GRIS) for a formal check of its content.
  9. Finalise your project proposal:
    • Do an error check (top right-hand corner – if error-free, the button Report chyb [error report] will change to Finalizovat [finalize]).
    • By clicking Finalizovat, generate the final project proposal named _CZ_f.pdf. Using the icon /code>Uložit [save], save the final PDF in GRIS.
    • Send this PDF without any further modification to projectoffice@uochb.cas.cz.
    • After generating the final PDF version, the project proposal MUST NOT be modified or opened in the GRIS application – breach of the electronic seal is a valid reason for excluding the proposal from the tender.
    • The final proposal will be submitted by the Project Office to GA ČR via the data box. Wait for our message confirming submission and for further instructions. We will require your cooperation with a check of the electronic seal.
  10. The project proposal will be submitted to GAČR through the data box systém – will be taken care of by the Project Office. The Statutory declaration will be submitted by the Project Office.

Final results of the evaluation will be announced by the end of 2025 (SNSF, FNR, ARIS, HRZZ), end of 2026 (NCN, ARIS) or continuously according to the date of publication of results by a selected foreign Lead agency (FWF, DFG, NSF).

The project start dates, when the GAČR acts as the Partner agency, differ, according to this timetable:

  • FWF, Austria: according to delivery of the receipt from FWF, several possible dates expected in 2026
  • DFG, Germany: according to delivery of the receipt from DFG, several possible dates expected in 2026
  • NCN, Poland: 1. 1. 2027
  • ARIS, Slovenia: 1. 10. 2025
  • SNSF, Switzerland: 1. 1. 2026 (for deadline 1. 4. 2025), 1. 7. 2026 (for deadline 1. 10. 2025)
  • FNR, Luxembourg: 1. 1. 2026
  • NSF, USA: according to delivery of the receipt from NSF
