What is the IOCB Bridge Support?

The IOCB Bridging Support (IOCB Bridge) is an internal source of funding available at the IOCB. It is intended to temporarily fund a research group that finds itself in a situation of temporary loss of external funding for reasons beyond its control. The Support is available in instances when external funding has expired, and renewal of external funding is expected in the near future. The Support is used to bridge the funding gap until new external funding is obtained with maximum duration of one year.

Who can apply for the IOCB Bridge?

Group leaders only, if their group does not currently have the external funding for operational and staff costs necessary for the sustainability of the group. The group leader must demonstrate an effort to obtain external funding. An unfunded project proposal submitted to a national or international funding agency may be submitted by any member of the group.

Why apply for the IOCB Bridge?

  • To secure one year of bridging money to cover salary and research expenses for your research group until new external funding is obtained (up to one year).
  • Enable your group to work on preliminary results, validating hypotheses and finishing off publications in order to improve the competitiveness of your resubmitted project proposal.

When to apply for the IOCB Bridge?

Applications can be submitted and will be evaluated on a rolling basis upon the publication of the call results by respective funding agency. The deadline for Bridge applications based on GACR grants is is 15th December of the year of the particular GACR call.

  • The IOCB Bridge support is available for a maximum of one year and is not transferable.
  • The IOCB Bridge support will be terminated early if external funding is granted.

How to apply for the IOCB Bridge?

  1. Find and read programme guidelines:
  2. Write a justification letter explaining why you are applying for the Bridge.
  3. Collect the following documents for your application:
    1. Justification letter giving the reason for applying.
    2. A copy of the project proposal submitted to the funding agency call.
    3. The evaluation reports of the external funding agency (Protocol & all Reviews).
    4. Proposed financial budget requested from IOCB Bridge support.
    5. Past 5 years external funding history (title of the project, name of funding agency, requested budget, duration of the project).
    6. Specifics of further applications submitted to fund the same project through another funding agency (title of the project, name of funding agency, the role of the applicant, duration of the project, requested budget, expected date of result announcement).

Applications will be evaluated based on the quality and significance of the project. The final decision to award the IOCB Bridge support lies with the director.
