IOCB Intramural Support

What is the IOCB Intramural Support?

The IOCB Intramural Support (IOCB Intramural) is an internal source of funding available at the IOCB. It is intended to finance the preparatory phases of high-risk / high-gain projects, as it is difficult to obtain funding for higher-risk projects or to test completely new hypotheses. Nevertheless, it is required that the proposal already contains preliminary "proof-of-principle data". In addition, these innovative ideas require internal support due to intellectual property protection. IOCB Intramural does not replace domestic or European funding systems. These may be single or multidisciplinary projects proposed and implemented by a single principal investigator. See guidelines in Czech   and English  .

Who can apply for the IOCB Intramural?

  • Only the IOCB group leader can be an applicant.
  • In the case of multidisciplinary projects, colleagues from other IOCB groups may also be members of the project team.

When to apply for the IOCB Intramural?

There are two application deadlines per year: 1 October and 1 May.
  • Applications are always submitted for one year of support.
  • Support can be granted for a maximum of three 3 consecutive years.

How to apply for the IOCB Intramural?

  1. Find and read programme guidelines:
  2. Think about a project design for which you want to get internal support.
  3. Prepare the IOCB Intramural application templates containing following information:
    • A brief justification for the application, including an indication of what is the breakthrough aspect of the proposed project.
    • A statement how the project will benefit from IOCB internal funding and why the project is less suitable for funding by other funding agencies.
    • Project description (max. 5 pages + 2 figures, emphasizing key scientific points).
    • A short CV of PI and team member(s), if relevant.
    • Past 5 years external funding history (title of the project, name of funding agency, requested budget, duration of the project).
    • List of publications in the last 5 years.
    • Proposed financial budget requested from IOCB Intramural support based on an estimate of the financial costs (operational and personnel costs).
  4. Submit the finalized application package by e-mail to: IOCBgrants@uochb.cas.cz

Project funding will be provided for the October deadline on January 1 of the following year; for the May deadline on July 1 of that calendar year.

No later than during the second year of IOCB Intramural support implementation, a project proposal based on the results obtained through this support must be submitted to an external funding agency.
