What is the STRATEGY AV21
The Strategy AV21 is a research programme that aims to address trends in global science, societal relevance and national research priorities. The AV21 strategy is implemented through research programmes, which are a set of activities focused on resolving the problems and challenges faced by the contemporary society. Interdepartmental cooperation and synergistic effects of partnerships between the CAS institutes and between the CAS institutes and other independent institutions are the tools for the implementation of the research programme. Who can apply for the STRATEGY AV21?

Consortium composed of teams from at least 3 CAS institutes represented by a coordinator. The research programme is divided into research topics.
The research topic is managed by the research topic investigator (a CAS institute employee). The research topic is usually implemented by multiple
CAS institutes. The CAS Strategy AV21 programme are open to external partners from universities, companies, and institutions of state and regional
administration, as well as foreign research groups and organizations.
- Strengthening existing and establishing new collaborations between the CAS institutes.
- Strengthening existing and establishing new partnerships with teams from universities, companies, state and regional government institutions from the Czechia and abroad.
- Increasing public awareness of your research focused on resolving the problems and challenges faced by the contemporary society.
- Engaging in the prestigious AV21 Strategy programme, joining consortia that address trends in global science, societal relevance and national research priorities.
- Find and read programme guidelines:
- Identify relevant project partners and further team members you would like to work with.
- Negotiate and justify roles, activities and responsibilities of all partners in the project. Designate the main Coordinator of the consortium and research Topic Investigators. The coordinator will be responsible for a submission of the joint proposal via the CAS Head Office online information system (KIS)
- Together with other project partners elaborate the research idea of the programme. Work tightly with the other topic investigators and allow time for others to review the draft proposal.
- For IOCB approval with grant submission is necessary to complete the form in the Electronic Project Proposal Approval system.

- name and affiliation of the topic investigator)
- abstract of your research topic, incl. time schedule (max 600 words) (in Czech)
- budget for your research topic: total budget and detailed budget for the 1st year incl. justification (personnel cost, goods, travel and services costs, investments only in well justified cases).
- name and acronym of the research programme in Czech and English
- name and contact details of the coordinator and the name of the coordinating institute(s)
- summary of the research programme (200-400 words)
- duration of the research programme (up to 5 years)
- a list of research topics and their distribution among partner institutes
- the names and contact details of investigators and the names of the partner CAS institutes
- an abstracts of all research topics (max. 600 words)
- the programme and time schedule for the first 12 months of implementation of the research programme
- a budget proposal for the first 12 months of implementation of the research programme, including its justification
- Final results will be announcement in Nov 2024.
- The grant start date is expected to start in Jan 2025.

Role of the Project Partner (Topic Investigator)
The Topic Investigator will be responsible for a research topic implementation.
P1. Discuss the proposal with all project partners and prepare your parts for the joint proposal Strategy AV21 (see Strategy AV21 2025 Template-sample ![]() P2. Ask Project office for help with the Consent letter of the partner institute (IOCB) to its involvement in implementation of the research programme (Letter signed by the Director of the institution – Project office). P3. Participate on preparation of the joint project description part. |
Role of the Programme Coordinator
The coordinator who will be responsible for a preparation and submission of the joint proposal via the CAS Head Office online information system (KIS).
C1. Register the joint project proposal in the KIS system).
C2. Coordinate the preparation of the joint proposal and fill in all parts of the programme proposal to the KIS system
(see Strategy AV21 2025 Template-sample ).
The joint programme proposal includes:
C3. Ask all partners for Consent letter of participated the partner CAS institutes and external partners to their involvement in implementation of the research programme (Letter signed by the head of the organization).
C4. Finalize the online application and create final PDF of the proposal in the KIS system.
C5. Submission – the final version of the programme proposal generated by the KIS system including related attachments must be subsequently sent by the coordinating CAS institute to the CAS Head Office via data box before the deadline.
Deadline for submission of the Proposal (done by the Project Coordinator) is on Thu 21 Jan 2024 17:00 CET (IOCB deadline Mon 18 Jan 2024).
