What is the GA ČR PIF IN?

The goal of the POSTDOC INDIVIDUAL FELLOWSHIP group of projects is to motivate excellent Czech scientists who have long-term international experience, and are in the early stages of their careers, to carry out their own “Excellence Project” at an institution in the Czech Republic for the duration of the Project, i.e. 3 years; to facilitate the transfer of exceptionally talented postdocs from other countries to Czech research organizations, and/or the return of highly talented Czech scientists back to the Czech Republic after completing their scientific missions abroad.

Who can apply for the GA ČR PIF IN?

The POSTDOC INDIVIDUAL FELLOWSHIP is a single-investigator project, and the Investigator is expected to work on this POSTDOC INDIVIDUAL FELLOWSHIP exclusively. As of the date of the publication of the Tender Notice, the Applicant may not be employed by the Organization or any other scientific institution in the Czech Republic. The employment must be established at the start date of the Grant Project at the latest.
Applicant up to 4 years from Ph.D. defence (30 Sep 2021 – 30 Sep 2025); excluding the maternity leave and parental leave, sick leave for long-term sickness and other long-term career breaks on legal basis; to be sufficiently proved.
Long-term experience abroad - A minimum of 2 years of the last 3 years before 2025 as a doctoral student abroad or employment with a scientific institution abroad (or those two combined) shall be deemed long-term experience abroad; can be extended by maternity leave and parental leave, sick leave for long-term sickness and other long-term career breaks on legal basis; to be sufficiently proved. Long-term experience abroad must be completed and documented by 30 Sep 2025 at the latest.

How to apply for the GA ČR PIF IN?

  1. Find and read guidelines::
  2. SUPERVISORS (GROUP LEADERS): Actively look for a promising postdoc with long-term experience abroad that is not integrated in the Czech research system (a minimum of 2 years out of the last 3 years spent abroad). You can offer him/her the opportunity to carry out him/her own GACR PIF IN project within your research group, and help him/her prepare a competitive project proposal for the GA CR PIF IN.
  3. Inform the Project office about your intention to apply (send an email with the type of project and Evaluation Panel choice to projectoffice@uochb.cas.cz) (by Tue 25 Feb 2025)
  4. Prepare the off-line parts of your project proposal: :
    • Part C1: justification of project proposal (up to 10 pages font size 11, single spacing, 6 MB).
    • Part D1: CV of the applicant (up to 2 pages; font size 11, single spacing, 1 MB).
  5. Complete all parts of your project proposal in the GRIS application:
    • Part A: basic identification data, abstract (1100 characters), aims of the project (300 characters), keywords, field classification - OECD
    • Part B: total funding, breakdown of financial items, incl. justification, detailed structure of personnel costs
    • Part C2: expected project results.
    • Part D2: other achieved results.
    • Part E: information on other projects of the applicant.
  6. Send your budget for checking (projectoffice@uochb.cas.cz). To do this, send your auxiliary calculation spreadsheet (provided by the Project Office upon request) and a draft proposal version (generated by GRIS) already containing the budget justification section (part B) (by Tue 4 Mar 2025).
  7. For IOCB official approval please complete form in the electronic project proposal approval system. Please complete this only after your budget has been approved by the Project Office.
  8. Send a complete draft proposal (PDF generated by GRIS) for a formal check of its content (Part C1 - need not be complete at this stage) by Tue 18 Mar 2025.
  9. Send a Part C1 or complete draft proposal (PDF generated by GRIS) for a formal check of Part C1 content by Thu 27 Mar 2025. After approval by the Project office you will be asked to send a final PDF version of project proposal generated in GRIS system.
  10. Finalise your project proposal:
    • Do an error check (top right-hand corner – if error-free, the button report chyb [error report] will change to finalizovat [finalize]).
    • By clicking finalizovat, generate the final project proposal named _CZ_f.pdf. Using the icon Uložit [save], save the final PDF in GRIS.
    • Send this PDF without any further modification to projectoffice@uochb.cas.cz (by Mon 31 March 2025).
    • After generating the final PDF version, the project proposal MUST NOT be modified or opened in the GRIS application – breach of the electronic seal is a valid reason for excluding the proposal from the tender.
    • The final proposal will be submitted by the Project Office to GA ČR via the data box (by 22 Apr 2021). Wait for our message confirming submission and for further instructions. We will require your cooperation with a check of the electronic seal.
  11. The project proposal will be submitted to GAČR through the data box system by the final deadline of Thu 3 Apr 2025 – will be taken care of by the Project Office.
    The Statutory declaration will be submitted by the Project Office.

Final results of the evaluation will be announced by 28 Nov 2025.
The project implementation must start on within period 1 Jan – 1 Oct 2026.
